A harbour in constant motion
There’s always something happening in Måløy. This is clearly reflected in the impressive number of vessel arrivals handled by Nordfjord Havn, a key member of Måløy Maritime Group, that deals with the logistics of all port calls. In 2024 alone, the port registered 5,836 vessel calls, representing over 17,2 million gross tonnes of traffic. These figures highlight the high level of activity and the significant capacity of Måløy as both a logistical gateway and a trusted service provider to the ocean-based industries.
A substantial portion of this activity is directly related to fisheries and aquaculture: 1,971 fishing vessels, 262 live fish carriers, 129 freezer carriers, and other vessels like cruise ships made port calls during the year. Nordfjord Havn has also rolled out shore power facilities, helping to reduce emissions, noise and operational costs for visiting vessels. A real game changer for the port and the future of responsible maritime operations.

Behind the numbers
The high volume of annual port calls in Måløy underline the vital role of the fishing and aquaculture industries in the region. Måløy is a port designed to support the entire maritime value chain – from wild catch and aquaculture to processing and export.
What lies behind all the activity?
Take our member MHService as an example. With a strategic location in Måløy, they provide efficient bunkering and a wide range of lubricants and technical products – backed by strong expertise and reliable service. Supporting both coastal and international vessels, they also offer advanced diagnostic tools like Castrol SmartMonitor, allowing real-time analysis of used lubricants to enhance vessel efficiency and prevent engine damage.
Daily maritime service is a key part of MMG. From equipment supply to technical repairs, several companies ensure that visiting vessels are fully supported while in port.
In one example, fire safety specialists from Sentronik carried out an annual inspection on MV Øyfjord while the vessel was at Stadyard for its five-year classification. This type of hands-on, on-site service is a familiar sight in Måløy and a clear example of how our members work together to deliver seamless, high-value support directly to the fleet.

Global contracts – local norwegian power
Maybe you already know about the longliner/trawler Cape Arkona from Austral Fisheries? The collaboration between Båtbygg and Austral Fisheries continues, and the shipowner is once again looking to Båtbygg and Måløy.
The hull of the new longliner Austral Odyssey has arrived at Båtbygg and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. At 69 meters, it will be the biggest and most technological advanced vessel of its kind.
– The design of Austral Odyssey incorporates the combined knowledge and experience of its owners, designers and shipbuilders, and will operate in waters known as the harshest in the world, says David Carter, CEO of Austral Fisheries.
Kjell Inge Sjåstad, CEO at Båtbygg, is proud and honoured to be working together with Austral Fisheries on another newbuilding:
– This confirms our well-established relationship, and our position as a reliable supplier and partner, says Sjåstad.
He also praises the employees at Båtbygg for their efforts that have made this possible:
– This contract together with the Cape Arkona we delivered in 2020, is a result of the fantastic work our employees have done over many years, both in terms of quality and delivery time.
Among the MMG members, Fiskevegn will deliver all lines, hooks and other fishing gear to Austral Odyssey. Their long-standing collaboration with Austral Fisheries began in 2008, when the company supplied gear for the conversion of Austral Leader II – a former Danish purse seiner rebuilt into an automatic longliner. This marked the beginning of a strong and enduring partnership. Today, Fiskevegn is proud to once again be selected as gear supplier for a new Austral Fisheries newbuilt.
There is no doubt that this has major local impact for the cluster members and the local community. Like the Cape Arkona, many of MMG’s members will be involved in the process from hull to fully equipped vessel.
Båtbygg carries out the work in close cooperation with other companies, and the short distance between them allow for quick and efficient collaboration.

A maritime community, built on collaboration
